This small Sagrada Familia is a hidden gem in the province of Alicante. Inspired by Gaudí, the Sanctuary of Santa Maria Magdalena will amaze you with its unique architecture.

Just 35 minutes from Alicante or 60 minutes from the apartment is a sanctuary well worth a visit whether you are in the area or just passing through on your travels through Spain.

It is located on a hill at a height of 360 meters above sea level and also provides a breathtaking view of the surroundings. Construction work on the church began in 1918 and went through three stages. Jose Sala Sala, a native of Novelda, designed it and dedicated it to Mary Magdalene, the patron saint of the city.

The interior of the church was designed to resemble the pitcher used by Mary Magdalene when she anointed Jesus' feet. A combination of rocks, pebbles from the Vinalopo river, polychrome tiles and simple red bricks were used as building materials.

The organ inside is made of marble, but the rest of the interior has been kept quite simple. The two side towers, both 25 meters high, are decorated with stone crosses on their tops. The entrance, the dome and the entire building are a beautiful example of the modernist style.

And yes, there is something extra! La Mola restaurant is located almost next to the sanctuary and offers delicious Mediterranean and traditional dishes that are worth tasting.
